Last Friday I took my husband to Yarak Birds of Prey Centre in Devon for an Experience Day, I went as a spectator so I could photograph the event! Seriously though, I cannot rate this place or the staff highly enough! They all do a fantastic job in looking after the birds and making your visit a day to remember. I'm sorry if this sounds like a trip adviser review (actually it is), but I just wanted to share with you what a great day we had.
We first went to Yarak back in August 2014, that was our first attempt at an experience day. We had an amazing morning flying the small birds in the barn with Di who was extremely knowledgeable. Unfortunately though the rain came in over lunchtime we were unable to continue with the afternoon outdoor flying so John very kindly gave a voucher to go back another time.
So we re-booked for last Friday, the 6th February, which probably not a great time of year to be doing an outdoor experience! Again we had an amazing morning in the barn flying the small birds, this time with Sian, who was equally as knowledgeable. Unfortunately, because it was so windy and absolutely freezing cold, we could only fly a couple of birds outside, which was still amazing, and the rest of the afternoon we flew them inside the barn. I have to say, that wherever you fly the birds, it is a fantastic experience. Yes, it's nice to see them outside, but in the barn, you get much more up close with them!
The food at the centre is delicious, we had an All-Day breakfast for lunch and some lovely home-made cake for afternoon break, which Dion's (one of the handler's) wife makes.
The centre is well laid out with lots of information on all the birds and if you have any questions the staff are always happy to answer them and help you. All the staff have a real passion for the birds and the centre and it's so lovely to see that.
My husband thoroughly enjoyed his experience day and I can't wait to do one myself.
